Journal – Week 39, September/October 2022 ☔

13 more weeks, or maybe 14, and then 2022 already comes to an end. When there are no lockdowns, when vacation can happen, when you can meet with friends and do fun things… It really helps to make it feel like time can truly fly by… And while I may feel a bit blah, season changing to colder and wetter always does this to me, I’ll try to make the best of it. 😊

Getting up was hard. The bed was comfortable and warm. But I got out and ready for the gym. I took care of my sweet gall and then went on my way. I forgot to bring an umbrella ☔, as I had forgotten to check the weather. So I’m hoping I can make it back dry, as my jacket isn’t water resistant. I started with 10 minutes on the treadmill where I tried to run again. Three times one minute on 7 km/h. It’s still scary to do, but I am doing it. After my seated bike ride I wanted to hit the treadmill again. If it’s still quiet, I may try some running again. Otherwise it’s an incline walk. But after the first treadmill “run”, I did a few exercises. Man, they are hard. Times like these I wish I had a personal trainer helping me get on and through this. It’s so easy to give up, give in, and just be OK, even though part of you is very disappointed in yourself.

After the seated bike I headed to the treadmill again. And again, I did 3x 1 minute of running at 7,2 km/h. And this time only holding with my right hand. Scary! But I did it! It cost me a lot of energy, I walked for 20 minutes in total. I needed some time to recover from the extra runs. I feel so proud but at the same time also so silly. I’m proud because I ran for a minute. But then I think “it’s only one minute”. That’s years of conditioning for you. It’s so hard to push the negative aside and just “simply” focus on the positive. 10 minutes on the crosstrainer after that and then: home.

I was fortunate, it didn’t rain. Washed up, dressed and make breakfast. When our friend texted she was ready for walkies, Arwen sprang off the couch and was ready to go. So go we went 😇. I did bring an umbrella this time as the weather was on and off being wet. When we got back from the 3km walk, I gave Arwen a bigger snack and headed to the city center. I needed some soup and protein bars. My umbrella still in hand, music on my head, I had a decent time. Got all I needed and then I headed home again.

Some relaxing before I hit the hometrainer for 45 minutes. Legs were still a bit tired after 6km of walking, so I was OK with “just” 45 minutes. I played some Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, episode 1, while on the hike.


Then I made some lunch and enjoyed that. A quick jump outside so Arwen could pee. It was still raining and when Arwen was done, she headed straight home. I guess the rain got to be too much, even for her 😂. Another 50 minutes on the bike while I tried to finish episode 1. And with help from a guide online, I did it. Only one 🏆 trophy left, but that’s a harder one, so I need a guide to try it myself. If I can’t get it, I’ll probably ask a friend to try. Sometimes all you need is some luck 😉.


After that, dinner time. I fixed Arwen and myself a good meal. Then we went out for walkies. Arwen wasn’t too motivated, but she and I needed the exercise. Even though it was, unfortunately, still raining. Guess autumn is making up for all the rain we missed during the summer 🤔. I rode my bike again after that, no gaming though. Just Ugly Betty. I rode for 80 minutes, then it was time to relax before the bed time routine would start. The before bed walk was a very short one. Arwen pooped and then didn’t want to go any further. So after asking her a few times, I just gave in and went back inside. It was raining too much to discuss this (😉) even more with her. Haha!

Positive: enjoying Sam & Max and finishing the first episode.

Gaming: Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, episode 1 finished, episode 2 started.

I had a good night and I didn’t want it to end. But the ⏰ alarm went off, so after two snoozes I went out. It’s always harder to leave the bed when the room is getting a bit colder. So I got dressed, walked and fed Arwen and I headed to the gym. I did three exercises efore heading to the seated bike. I had wanted to start with some more running, but my legs were a tad sore, so today I would only use them for walking. Let them recharge and I’ll try some running again tomorrow. 😊 I haven’t been able to run in a long time, so learning it again, bit by bit, already is a big step for me. After the seated bike I did go to the treadmill but to walk with a decent incline.

Arwen and I had to go for walkies on our own today. I needed to head to Nijmegen around 9:30 for a check up at the hospital. It’s been over a year since I got my replacement hip and now they want to check up. So I need to have Xrays taken and then visit the orthopedic Doc.

We had good walkies, although I didn’t let Arwen swim. It was a bit chilly and she had some issues with flakes in her fur, so I thought it beat to let the skin heal before swimming again. She was disappointed with me but in the end she just did her other things and had fun. I had some time to relax before needing to leave, so I rode my bike for a bit. Then I let Arwen out again for a quick wee and I got in my car and headed to Nijmegen.

I always park in the street where my parents live and walk to the hospital. Their parking fees are nuts and it’s only 15/20 minutes to walk there… So armed with my headphones and umbrella, I headed to the hospital. I checked in and went to the X-ray department. Where I needed to check in again??? 🤔 Weird! I was early but called in early anyway. They took the shots and I was on my way to the next waiting area. Where… I needed to check in again. They really love wasting time and paper there these days. My appointment was at 11:15 so I was very surprised when I got called in at 10:45. It was a very short talk as everything was good, so in 5 minutes we were done. I’m sure my insurance will get a hefty bill for those 5 minutes of talking 😂…

I walked back to the car and got home. I relaxed a bit and snacked waaaaaay too much. The IBS yesterday had left me feeling so empty with resulted in me feeling über-hungry all the time. I had forgotten that I had delayed my PT with half an hour, in case the hospital would be running late. So at my usual time, I let Arwen out and headed there. When I was almost there, I realized my mistake… So I headed to the city center for some groceries. Unfortunately they didn’t have what I wanted, so slowly I headed to my PT’s location. I waited there while watching some Ghost Whisperer. He was ready a little earlier so I could come in.

Feeling a lot better and mobile, I headed back home. Made dinner for Arwen and myself. I walked a short round with Arwen and then headed to my bike for a while. I thought of gaming, but my concentration was bad again. So I just watched TV. Then some relaxing before bed time. I took my meds, brushed my teeth and walked my gall. Then, off to bed as I was tired and could use some sleep. 😴

Positive: getting the all clear at the hospital. Need to re-visit in 3 years or call if anything goes wrong in the mean time. 😊

Gaming: none, unfortunately… 😔

I woke up around 3:15 and I just got up. Sleeping for half an hour would only leave me more tired… So I dressed and walked Arwen earlier. Then I fed her and headed to the gym. I started with some “running”. Spend 15 minutes on the treadmill. First few warming up, then 3* 1 minute running, 2 minutes walking. Then 2 minutes walking on a faster pace and then a cool down. Running still is hard on me. And the treadmill still scares me a lot. But I will keep practicing and hopefully, I’ll get better with time… I do hope so! Today I wanted to start with cardio and end with strength. Hoping my muscles will be warmer then because of the cardio, making the strength easier. It was 7°C this morning, so my muscles and tendons are more sore. Yes, I take my morning painkillers, otherwise I couldn’t even do the cardio… But they’re no magic pills that ease it all. They help me, I still gotta push through and make the efforts.

After the treadmill I headed to the seated bike for an hour. Still upping the intensity to hopefully make my legs a little stronger. Which will hopefully help with the running… 😊 Then back to the treadmill. First some running, then some inclined walking. Change of plans though 😉… Instead of the incline walking, I tried some more interval runs.

I ran for 1:15 at 2 minutes, at 5 minutes and at 8 minutes. My speed in between runs was 5,6km/h, my run speed was 7,2km/h. At 11 minutes I walked 6,2km/h for 2 minutes. At 20 minutes I ran again for 1:30.

After the treadmill I went to the crosstrainer for 20 minutes. Then I did 3 arm/back/chest exercises. I was tired after all of that, so home it was. When I was almost home, I could head back to bed again! 😂 My watch gave me the 100% done…

So I washed up and made breakfast. And of course I ate it as I was quite hungry. I rode my bike for an hour after that. And then it was almost time for walkies with our friend. The taxi was running late so Arwen and I started the walk together. But within a few minutes, M had been picked up and she could join us. So the walk took a bit longer as Arwen and I were going very slow 😂. After walkies our friend headed to the gym and I went to the Appie. Got my groceries and headed back home. Rode my bike again and without noticing, I rode for two hours! In that time our friend had come to bring the gym card back as well.

I let Arwen out for a pee and then made us dinner. After that, we walked a 1,5 km walk. And just as we got home, it started raining a lot, so we had been very fortunate. I got back on the bike and started up Sam and Max Beyond Time and Space episode 1. I wanted to try to get that last 🏆 trophy. I got all the decals but one. I need to find a red cheese wheel rolling about. But either I never checked the right spot or there’s a bug as I don’t believe I ever saw that wheel. And I’ve been driving around a lot… 🤔 After a while the driving gave me a headache so I decided to continue episode 2. Until I needed to drive the car again for that as well and I failed. I could not continue gaming as that driving had given me concentration troubles and a slight headache. So I’ll definitely try again soon. Or I should ask for help if all else fails. Sometimes you just need a bit of luck 🍀.


I rode for 90 minutes and then I was all spent and I needed to relax. I watched some Ugly Betty until it was time to get ready for the bed time routine. 😴

Positive: I almost made it with my calories… Almost… And I managed to get some decals in the game, not all, but some at least. 🎮

I used all the snoozes, it was hard to get up. But in the end I got dressed, walked my gl and made her breakfast. With only 4°C it was kinda chilly so I was glad for my warmer coat. I walked to the gym, stretched my legs a bit and started with the treadmill. This time I got in 4x 1:15 minutes of running at 7,2 km/h and 1:15 walking at 6,2 km/h in 15 minutes. The other minutes I walked at 5,6 km/h. Just like yesterday morning, only an extra 1:15 run added. I wasn’t sure if I’d do another run on the treadmill or an inclined walk, but I had my time on the seated bike to think about it. I thought about combining the two and that’s what I tried to do after my hour on the bike.

I didn’t run the second time on the treadmill, but I walked 5,6-6,2 km/h with a 4% incline for 15 minutes. Followed by 13 minutes on the crosstrainer. I did several arm and back exercises and then I headed back home. Mum would pick me up again for our Germany grocery shopping, so I needed to be ready in time. I washed up, made and ate brekky and walked Arwen. I managed to be ready in time, but no sign of mum. Several minutes in, she called me. There was a traffic jam and she needed a different route. I could wait inside and she’d text me when she was here. So I went inside, which confused Arwen a bit. 25 minutes later we headed for Germany.

We got the groceries we needed. Mum had asked me to drive when we stopped at the first store, so I could not text out friend that we were on our way home. When we got home, I texted her and put away my groceries. A quick loo visit and Arwen was all ready for walkies. So was our friend, so onwards we went. It felt rather warm in the sun which was nice for a change. When we got back home I made some lunch and then I rode my bike for an hour.

Part of me wanted to game but I felt a little tired so I just went with watching some season 3 of Ugly Betty. After the ride I started our dinners and we enjoyed them. When we finished, I walked Arwen for a shorter round and then I headed back to the bike. I again had snacked so needed to make some amends… I rode for 75 minutes. I had wanted to get more but my legs were cramping a little so I had to stop. While I do stretch before my short interval runs in the morning, I do think my body needs some time to adjust to this abuse 😂! But I’m trying to keep the short I ter als up. And hopefully they’ll result in longer intervals in a while… Who knows?

After the ride I had some relaxing time before the bed time routine started. I had wanted to game but… Unfortunately had not done so. I do hope I can play some tomorrow. I’d like to continue the Sam & Max game, but the driving mini game with the bagpipes was hard on my hands. But I’ll try a few times, I’m not giving up that easily. If only I had the energy to concentrate and the hands to play well 😂 just my luck here… Alright, time to get ready for bed!

Positive: I got 246% of exercise in, which is rather good for a Thursday! Still, I snacked…….

Gaming: No games for me today 😔

Owwww cold weather, warm bed! Not the best combination to get our from under the warm blankets… But yeah, had to get up as Arwen needs me for walkies and food. We did our usual thing and then, of course, I continued my routine to Basic-Fit.

I started with some interval running. 2 minutes warming up, 1:15 (7,2), 1:30 (5,6), 1:15 (7,2), 1:30 (5,6), 1:45 (7,2), 1:15 (5,6), 2:00 (5,6 incline 4%). I hope this makes any sense 😂. My heart was racing in between and it was hard, but I did it again. 😊 Small steps = small progress = start of success 🍀!

After the interval I headed to the seated bike. I did my usual thing there, riding, increasing intensity and checking and writing blogs. 😊 After that, back to the treadmill for some faster walking with an incline. Ending it with the climbmill. As the cardio had really worn me out, I didn’t do any strength exercises afterwards. Though I managed to do a select few at home using my dumbbells.

I got home, washed up, got on the scale, measured myself and got dressed. Made and ate breakfast while I updates my 1st of October blog. I was a tad sad as my numbers were the worst of this year, weight wise. To think that, about 10 months ago, I was about 11 kilo’s lighter. I do hope to get there again. Trying to buy less snacks, still/again, and trying to eat healthy and be active.

I was ready a little earlier, so I dusted off the Wii and put in Wii sports. I tried some boxing and a health check and this is what it gave me as a result:


Not too bad, right? Arwen was already waiting for our friend to text us for walkies. I just made this picture of her when we got the text we could head out for walkies.


Unfortunately, my watch went on pause again during the walk… So it only tracked about half of it. Getting tired of this. I used the lock screen function so my jacket cannot interfere with the screen. And still it goes on a break and doesn’t come off… Ugh… After the walk I relaxed a bit with some gaming. I tried to get the last decal in Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, episode 1, for the last trophy 🏆 that I still needed. It took me some time and a little frustration, but in the end, I finally got them all!

I got on my bike and played some of episode 2 of that game. When I noticed I had messed something up for a 🏆 trophy, I decided to start the episode again and do it right this time. I had a break where Arwen and I went out for walkies. Then I rode my bike for a bit and I finished episode 2. “Just” need the trophy for the car rides again, need to obtain more decals. It’s what I struggle with most, so I’ll need to be really relaxed when I try to get all of those. For you trophy lovers out there, this is de trophy description:

Then it was time to make dinner for Arwen and myself. I was expecting a call from my bestie so I kept my phone close. Just in case… I made and ate dinner and got back on my bik again. I was hoping to get a decent ride and then relax with some TV. Played enough Sam & Max for today, may continue tomorrow, see if I can get that trophy and probably start episode 3.

Unfortunately my bestie had a change of plans and we didn’t have our Friday afternoon call. While I totally understood the situation, I did miss our little chat. I tried to get some decals in Sam & Max in episode 2. I got one, but the bagpipes one is terribly hard, and this is even the “easiest” of the three. You’re not allowed to hit the accordions but I can’t see it fast enough if there’s an accordion behind it which I’ll need to avoid… I think I’ve been close once but definitely not good enough yet. According to the guide, episode two driving is the hardest one of the 5 and I totally believe that.

I then started episode 3 and was able to get some progress in it and grab some more trophies. I had been on the bike during most of episode 3, and after two hours I got off and relaxed a bit with some more gaming. Then it was time for my bed routine, so getting ready for hopefully a good night’s sleep 😴.

Positive: not snacking too much and enjoying some more gaming.

⏰ Snooze! Bed was nice and warm… Outside was windy and wet. Didn’t want to get out yet. So I got up anyway 😂. Walked Arwen and gave her breakfast. Put her snack on the couch and headed to the gym. With the wind and my umbrella ☔ it was kind of a challenge, but I got there in the end. I started with some stretching and running. And I think I’m slowly improving already, as I went for 7,4 km/h (4,6 mi/h) for 4x 1 minute. 😊 I even dared a little without holding on to the bar!

After the 15 minutes on the treadmill I headed to the bike again. I worked on my blog, I read several by others, all while working on a sweat.

True Trophies September 2022

True Trophies from September 2022, some were achievements by friends, most were mine 😇

After the bike ride my legs were warm enough to do two leg exercises, the Leg Press and the seated Leg Extention. Followed by 16 minutes fast walking on the treadmill, followed by 10 minutes on the climbmill. And then… I was very hungry and sweaty and I headed back home! I washed up, re-dressed and made and ate breakfast. I send some Arwen pictures to the walkies chat that we were slowly getting ready. And then we headed out for our 3 km walk. My watch decided, again, to just go on pause for a big part of the walk 😭. At the end a quick detour to the Jumbo, unfortunately they didn’t have all I wanted… So when Arwen and I got home, I got her a snack and I headed to the city center, hoping I could get my things there.

Got a few, unfortunately not all. But had some extra steps. I didn’t even bother to use my watch for my walks today, as it had paused twice in two days. Ugh… If anyone has some money, I’d like a new Garmin or Samsung watch 😉… One can dream, right? 😉

I relaxed a little and then rode my bike for 95 minutes. Made lunch and shared a bit with Arwen. Then I played some Walking Dead season 1, and I finished up episode 3. Will start 4 later.

After gaming a short walk with Arwen, followed by some relaxing. Then I made dinner for Arwen and myself and after that, another walkies. I wanted a short round but Arwen pulled me along to a bigger one. And in the end, I had to support her to get home as she was very tired. I really felt like a bully, asking her to keep going, telling her just a few more steps… But when we got home, she got a nice peanut butter Kong and after that, she snoozed heavenly on the couch.

My belly acted up again and I made it to the loo in time. Fortunately I had grabbed my phone so I could distract myself a little. Third time in a week 😔 it’s definitely not my best week… Then I got on the bike for an hour ride. After that, I watched TV a bit until it was time for the bed time routine. I wanted to play some Walking Dead but unfortunately I was too tired and my hands were a tad sore 😔.

Positive: finally I had a little calorie deficit and I enjoyed gaming a little again.

Oof it was hard to get up. Though it wasn’t too cold outside, my phone said 13°C, it was still colder than my bed. But after a few snoozes I got up and dressed. Took care for my sweetheart and then headed to the gym. Headed to the treadmill and after some stretching I started my short interval run training.

I think I’m slowly improving 💪🏼! I even ran all the bits without holding the bar!!! A tad scary but I did it. 😊 Before you know it I’ll be running a marathon 🏃🏼‍♀️! Haha naaaah just kidding. I’d love to be able to run a decent 5K though 🤔. Maybe some day?? After the treadmill I headed to the trusted bike. Working on Twitter and WordPress, sharing my running, writing and reading blogs… After the bike I went to the seated leg extention and did 3x 10*32 kilo’s. Then I did a 4th time with 8*39 kilo’s… Wow! 😳 Onwards to the treadmill where I walked almost 2km in 20 minutes with an incline of 2-8%. On to the crosstrainer for 12 minutes and then, I was done!

I headed home, washed up and had breakfast. Texted our friends that Arwen and I were getting ready for walkies. We had a decent walkies and I think Arwen enjoyed herself. As her winter coat is still forming, if the wind is too chilly, I won’t let her swim just yet. I don’t want her getting sick. She already had some of her winter fur coat but not all yet. How can she when it just turned October?

After walkies I relaxed a bit. Cleaned up my washings that were dry. Wiped the floor and couch. Ate a little and headed to my bike. I played some Overlord Fellowship of Evil while riding. When I was done riding, I played some Walking Dead, episode 4.

Arwen and I walked together. Weather was nice and she wanted the longer route. This time I came prepared and brought snacks. She walked a lot better with an occasional snack in het mouth 😂.


When we came back I made early dinner. Then I rode the bike for two hours while I played some Overlord II on my PS3. It had been ages since I played. Unfortunately the servers have been shut down so I can never get the online 🏆 trophies, so no chance for a platinum one. But I do hope by playing it mrle, I may get some of the others. I did get a few but that was years ago, back in 2009 😂!


After the ride, I wanted to change my gaming cabinets. It took me a while and I’m still not sure if it’s am improvement, it may just need time to get adjusted to it. When I was done, I saw that Cold Case was back on Amazon Prime Video. So I relaxed with some of that show until it was time to get ready for bed.

Positive: having a good day. 😊 A little too much calories though 😔.
